Dead horse point et al

Rode above moab at the stunning place - Dead Horse Point State Park. In the last couple of years they have built a 9mile loop around the edge of the park that takes in some rather stunning views. The bit we did yesterday (out to the white rim) can be seen from a couple of the view points along the way. History and geography of the places is interesting as the cowboys, back in the day, would round up all the wild horses and drive them to this point. It is surrounded by sheer cliffs on 3 sides. The horses would then be corralled them. Broken in and then sold. It's called Dead Horse as some horses would, rumor has it, just off the cliffs when being rounded up.

Friday we had a morning adventure to a trail called Sovereign. Sandy and windy.

In the PM we headed to the would famous slickrock trail. This put Moab on the map as far as ATVs, dirt bikers and mountain bikers are concerned. Trail of white paint marks map out numerous trails across the landscape. Pick you poison and follow. Beware of incoming thunderstorms! This one passed by.

Listen to your mother!

Sure my mother always told me to use plenty of sun lotion when out playing. Suppose that old adage must be true!

spring break rolls round

It's that time again to head out of the city and find warmer locales. This year being no exception we packed up and headed west. First port of call being Fruita with young Dan, for a few days of warm weather riding. Well..

Rode out at Rabbit Valley on the Kokopelli trail for the first day. Have a race there in a coule of months and wanted to ride a bit there. 100k's of fun await in May. The trail in this pic isn't in the race, but we rode it anyway - called the Western Rim.

The Kokopelli goes all the way to Moab. We only rode it out for about 20 miles before back tracking and adding this section to the ride.
Rode out at Mary's before splitting from Dan and heading on to Moab.

Headed from town for a long ride out towards the White rim Trail. A monster 100 mile ride that takes you around the rim of the colorado and green rivers in Canyonlands NP.

We only did a short taster as had ridden most for the way from Moab just to get to the trail, and then had to spin back to town. Managed to spend over 5 hours in the saddle and ended up with rather sun burnt legs. That sun is decceptive so cover up!

Cold start to 2011

What a cold start to the year. So cold that my school district closed it's schools for a couple of days as it didn't want the kiddos getting frost bite while they waited for the bus in the morning. Add winds of 20-30 mph and the wind chill was wicked. I was happy to be held up at home for a couple of days so I could work on my 'to do list'

Jolly chilly in anyones money!

slow start to 2011

Christmas came and went for another year. We spent a week up in Winter Park at a good friend's house. Did some snowboarding and a bit of cross country. Out in the Frazer valley here

Had a couple of days back in the city as Goose had work commitments before heading up to Ken's Cabin above Breckenridge. Had taken my parents there in the summer. It's a 6 mile ski in. over nighted before heading back to town.

Evening in the back o' beyond.

Heading out the next morning.

Kim and Steve flew up from Mexico for the new year and a bit of skiing.
Unfortunately it was soo cold that we managed a few walks in the the foot hills and around the local mall.
