So we've been down under for a few weeks now. Have done the fam thing in NZ and are currently in Oz - drying out!
Arrived in Auckland a couple of weeks back and spent some time with goose's lil bro and family before heading to Rotoura in our camper van. Got a week of biking in. Prep for the N-duro 40k race. Riding there is really good, but after a week of solid rain (70mm, about 3 inches old terms) the race course became super muddy. Enough to say that the race went so so and for a couple of lame animals from Colorado it was such a different experience from the dry dusty trails there that we didn't do as well as expected.
Heading down to the fam nest in Feilding (not a spelling error) and spent the week visiting and watching the rain fall. Oh it rains down under!
Managed a ride with Brother John on the muddy K road trail above North Palmerston. Did some jobs round the house for Peg and caught up with friends and fam.
Headed north to Taupo for some more riding en route to Auckland. Stunning system of trails there. Nothing too technical, just well thought out riding with a good flow. Big bonus - NO RAIN. Hit Auckland and swapped out toys as headed to Oz for a week with Leon, Sue and the mighty Pez.
Had a moment out concern as found out, 12 hours before departure, that you now need a visa for Oz if you're a pom. Oh, visas!!! After a time on google and a call to Air new zealand and a few frantic hours of waiting an elecronic visa was granted.
Now sitting in sunny queensland with said leon, sue and pez!
